Heard a coworker say 'I have nothing to hide' and it got me thinking

I overheard my neighbor telling my brother that he doesn't care about privacy because he's 'not doing anything wrong.' But that misses the point - I read last week that data brokers sold my browsing history to 12 different companies without me even knowing. Has anyone else had to explain to someone that privacy isn't about hiding things?

Start telling people free credit checks are a perk of getting hacked, not a solution.

Tell them to check their credit report. Three free ones a year.

Wait, is checking a credit report really the first thing you'd tell someone whose identity got stolen? @the_olivia I get that it's useful for seeing what damage is done, but by the time they pull those reports, the thief could already be opening new accounts. I'd say freeze your credit with all three bureaus first, that stops new accounts cold. Then you can take your time checking the reports for anything weird. Credit reports are great for catching stuff later, but a freeze is the only thing that actually puts up a wall right now.
