Vent: My neighbor's Ring doorbell caught me taking out the trash at 3am

So I got home late last night from a road trip and had to take out garbage before the morning pickup. I walk outside at like 3am and my neighbor across the street has a Ring doorbell that lights up red the second I step onto my own porch. I know it recorded me. They don't even have a door facing my side, it's pointed right at my house. I get that people want security but this feels like passive surveillance 24/7. Has anyone else dealt with these things being aimed into their yard?

Changed my whole thinking on these doorbell cameras, honestly. I used to roll my eyes at people complaining about them, figured they were just paranoid. Then my neighbor put one up that points right into my back fence where my kids play. Had to ask him to reposition it because it made me feel like I couldn't even let my dog out without being watched. Your mileage may vary but once you're on the receiving end of a lens that never blinks, it feels a lot different than reading about it online.

Has the law even caught up with this or are we just letting tech companies decide property lines now, @john_fisher?

Yeah honestly it's wild how fast this stuff outpaced any real rules.
