Dont fall for those overpriced radiation detector kits

I dropped $350 on one of those fancy fallout detection kits from a guy at a gun show last summer. Thought I was getting a legit geiger counter and all the accessories. Got it home and the thing was just a cheap chinese module glued into a milsurp case. The battery died after two uses and the readings were all over the place. Took it apart and found the sensor was literally taped to the inside. Total scam, lost every penny. Anyone else get burned by those booth vendors at preparedness events?

Did you try shaking it to make the radiation fall out?

Ha! That's honestly not the worst advice I've heard about old electronics. I bet if you shook it hard enough, some of those loose electrons would just rattle right out of the circuit board. I'm with you, foster.jordan, you might be onto something here. Next time my microwave acts up, I'm definitely giving it a good shake before I call anyone. Maybe even tap it against the counter a few times for good measure.
