Found out my town's zoning code bans front-yard vegetable gardens
I was digging through our local municipal code looking for rules about sheds and stumbled on Section 8.2. It literally says no vegetables in the front yard, only ornamental plants. Been gardening in my front patch for two summers and had no idea. Anyone else run into weird local laws that make no sense?

Honestly, I used to be all for strict zoning codes because I thought they kept neighborhoods looking tidy. But reading this changed my mind completely. Your yard your choice, you know? I get keeping things safe and not having a junkyard, but some vegetables look better than half the shrubs people plant. I've seen tomato plants grow into these huge green bushes that are honestly prettier than boxwood hedges.

some vegetables look better than half the shrubs people plant" - exactly this. Maybe the real issue is that zoning codes were written by people who never ate a homegrown tomato in their life.

your yard your choice" - exactly. I got a warning from my HOA last year for having kale in my front bed. Kale! It's literally just green leaves. Meanwhile my neighbor has this dead ass magnolia tree that's been a hazard for months and nobody says a word. Makes zero sense.
