Everyone keeps pushing for more education programs in prisons but I think we're missing something obvious

I work nights at a county jail and I've noticed most inmates can't even sleep properly because of the constant noise and lights. I know we can't make it a hotel but if we fixed basic sleep hygiene first we'd probably see way better results from those expensive rehab programs. Has anyone else seen this mismatch between fancy programs and basic living conditions?

Yeah that's a really good point actually. Sleep deprivation messes with your brain in so many ways it's crazy that we expect people to focus on self improvement when their basic needs aren't being met. It's like trying to build a house on a cracked foundation, just doesn't work.

@the_piper that house on cracked foundation thing is spot on. Have the people pushing these education programs ever actually spent a night inside a county jail? They keep dropping cash on fancy tablets and course materials but won't put in the money to fix a broken AC unit or replace lights that stay on 24/7.

Yeah that foundation thing really changed my mind honestly.
