Spent $40 on expensive acrylic paint markers that totally failed on my protest sign

I bought a set of fancy paint markers from an art store because I wanted my sign to look professional for the climate rally last weekend. Figured spending $40 would get me something that actually works on poster board. Nope, the ink came out all patchy and streaky, and I had to go over every letter like three times. One marker even dried up completely after just ten minutes of use. Total waste of money and time, I should have just stuck with basic Crayola markers and a sharpie for the outline. Has anyone found a decent cheap marker brand that actually holds up on corrugated plastic or foam board?

Bought a $40 set once and my protest sign looked like a kindergartner drew it with a dried-out Bic.

Yeah cheap markers are a total gamble, sometimes they just don't cooperate at all.

Oh man, that's such a bummer! I've been there with markers that just give up on you mid-letter. I'm not sure if this helps at all, but I tried a $5 pack of Posca markers from a hobby store once and they worked pretty good on foam board, but they bleed like crazy if you press too hard. Your mileage may vary though, some people swear by them and others hate them. I also tried a cheap brand called Artist's Loft and it was basically water. I saw @cole_flores44 mentioned cheap markers being a gamble, and yeah that's exactly it, you never know what you're gonna get until it's too late.
