Swapped my aluminum foil cone for a mesh sieve and picked up a signal that was right in front of me for months.
I was scratching my head over a weak C-band feed on 87W for like three months, then a buddy from the local club brought over his grid dish and we pulled in clear channels while my setup just sat there buzzing, now I'm wondering if anyone else has ditched solid reflectors for mesh and seen a big difference?

Wait, so your aluminum foil cone was just a fancy garden ornament that couldn't pull in a signal to save its life? I switched to mesh last year after my solid dish started acting like a metal umbrella instead of an antenna, and the difference was like night and day. Guess some of us just need a few holes in our lives for the signal to get through, huh lmao.

Drove me nuts for weeks trying to figure out why my old solid dish stopped working. Turned out the problem wasnt the dish itself but how it was weatherproofed. Used a cheap plastic cover from a hardware store and it basically turned into a giant water catcher in the rain. Switched to mesh and never looked back. Funny how those little holes let the signal through just fine but also let the rain drain out. Your birdbath comment got me laughing because thats basically what my solid dish turned into too.
