Asked a buddy to review my cam placement and he said 'that lens is pointing at your own shadow' - completely reworked how I test for glare after that

Man, that's a brutal but incredibly useful lesson. Now I always take a slow 360 walk around my setup while looking at the live view, paying extra attention to anything that moves with me. A cheap remote shutter or self-timer helps too, so you can physically step away and check the frame before the shot.

My buddy once set up a whole campsite shot and didn't notice his own hiking boot in the corner of every frame until he got home.

And that's the kind of feedback that sticks with you forever. Once you start thinking about how your own shadow might creep into the frame, you never unsee it. It's a solid trick to literally walk around yourself before you finalize a setup.
