My buddy swears his $30 Wyze cam is better than my $200 Reolink setup

He said the night vision is clearer and the app is faster, even though mine has a higher megapixel count. Has anyone else found that cheaper gear sometimes outperforms the spendy stuff in real world use, or is he just lucky?

John Fisher's spot on with that dashcam story. I've got a cheap Eufy doorbell that's held up better through rain and cold than my brother's expensive Ring ever did. Sometimes the pricier stuff just has more features that break or slow down, while the simple gear does the basics right every time.

Got a buddy who spent three times as much on a "pro" brand dashcam and it fried in direct sunlight. Meanwhile my $40 cheaper one has been stuck to the windshield for four years through heat waves and blizzards. Sometimes specs just don't account for random luck or how the thing actually handles real conditions.

Yeah "random luck" is about the only thing I've got going for me too.
