Switched from cable-drag to floating dredge line last spring and it cut my downtime by half
I ran cable-drag systems for 12 years on the Mississippi. Always thought floating line was just for shallow river work and too much hassle to maintain. But after getting stuck three times in one week on a sandbar near Baton Rouge, I finally tried a 10-inch floating discharge line from a company out of Houma. The difference in set-up time and mobility is huge. Has anyone else made a similar switch or found a better setup for moving around sandbars?

Did you see any wear issues with the floating line on the riverbed in low water?

Had a buddy who tried that and ended up snagging his line on a submerged car.

Right on, @dylan_brown30 it's like swapping one bad spot for another, I had a line get hung up on an old washing machine once.

Is it really half though or just feels like it because you were stuck so much before? I mean I get the frustration with cable-drag on the Mississippi, that river chews up gear like nothing else. But floating line snags on junk all the time too, you just traded one headache for another. Give it a full season and see if you're still singing its praises when a submerged car or tree tears a hole in it. I've seen guys swear by floating line until the first low water season hits and then they're back to wrestling cable.
