Appreciation post: Moisture-resistant drywall in basements is catching on fast around here.

Seeing fewer issues with mold and callbacks since more clients ask for it.

Finally realized building a room in a literal hole in the ground needs special materials, huh. Took you all long enough to figure out what the word 'basement' implies. Next you'll be shocked that roofs keep the rain out better than screen doors. Honestly, the fact that this is a new trend just proves common sense isn't that common in construction.

In Michigan, basements often have humidity issues, so moisture-resistant drywall is a no-brainer. It's crazy that this is a NEW trend, because water problems underground are OBVIOUS. Some builders just use cheap stuff to save money, and then homeowners pay for it later. This stuff should be standard, not an extra option. Better materials mean fewer headaches for everyone.

Claire's line about common sense not being common really hits home. I used to see green board as just an upsell when we finished our basement years ago. We went with regular drywall to save cash. Fast forward to a small leak from a window well, and we had to tear out a whole corner. The mold was bad. That fix cost way more than the upgrade would have. Now I get it's not about being fancy, it's about using the right tool for a wet job.

Applaud the trend, though @claire872 has a point about common sense.
