Just switched from a 6 inch to a 12 inch taping knife for my final coat

I used to fight with my 6 inch knife for years, thinking it gave me more control. After watching a guy in Spokane finish a whole ceiling in half the time, I tried his 12 inch. It lays down way more mud in one pass and leaves fewer lines. Anyone else make a simple tool switch that saved them a ton of time?

Yeah I was the same way with the 6 inch, thought it was the only way to get it smooth. But laying down more mud in one pass totally makes sense now.

My buddy Dave was so stuck on that idea, he went through a whole bucket of mud on one small wall. His arms were killing him from all those tiny passes. Then he saw a guy on a job site just load up a 12 inch knife and float it out in two passes, looked like glass. Dave's face was priceless, like his whole world just changed in a second. He won't touch the 6 inch now unless it's for a corner.

It's funny how we get stuck on the small tool, thinking it's more precise, when the bigger one actually does the job better and faster.
