Overheard two guys at the hardware store arguing if electrical tape or duct tape is better for patching a garden hose...

One guy said duct tape leaves a sticky mess that fails after a week while the other swore by it for quick fixes. Which side are you on for a temporary hose patch that actually lasts through a summer?

Quick fixes" is the key phrase there, because duct tape's sticky mess buys you time to go buy a real hose repair kit instead of fooling yourself into thinking electrical tape will hold up under pressure. Real talk how long are you expecting electrical tape to actually last on something that flexes and gets wet every few days?

...and nobody's mentioned how both tapes react to UV light yet. Duct tape turns into this crumbly, brittle mess after a few days in the sun, so that "quick fix" becomes a recurring nightmare every time you water the garden. Electrical tape at least stays flexible and doesn't disintegrate into a million sticky crumbs. I'd still go with self-fusing silicone tape if you're trying to get through the summer, it's the only thing that actually bonds to itself under water pressure and doesn't care about UV. But between the two original options, electrical tape is the lesser evil if you wrap it tight enough.

Quick fixes" reminds me of that time I tried fixing a lawn chair with zip ties.
