Used to hate using a toner set, now I swear by it after a mess in Detroit

Last month I was on a job in an old warehouse near Detroit. Spent 3 hours chasing a wire in a jumbled panel, ended up cutting the wrong circuit. My partner handed me his toner set and I finally caved. Now I carry my own Fluke toner and won't trace anything by just looking again. Anyone else stubborn about upgrading their tools for years?

Fluke makes good stuff, I get it. But I still think half the time people buy fancy toner sets just to feel like they're doing something important when they could just trace the wire with a multimeter and a little patience. All those extra features just give you more things to break or lose in your bag. I've been doing this for fifteen years and my method is still a beeper and a flashlight. Nothing wrong with learning the hard way if you ask me.

Man that sounds like a rough way to learn the lesson. Glad you finally gave in though, it's a game changer once you stop fighting it.

Read somewhere Fluke's patent on toner tracing expired a few years back actually.
