Drove past that new housing development over in Clifton last week and noticed they used all chain link on the back fences

I get that it's cheaper and keeps the view open, but don't solid wood panels give way more privacy and wind protection for those yards? Has anyone else run into homeowners arguing about which way to go on a big build?

Right? @logan658 nailed it with that grill comment... nothing says "welcome to the neighborhood" like catching a face full of charcoal smoke every time you hang laundry. That chain link basically turns your whole backyard into a public viewing gallery for everyone's dinner parties and dog accidents. Guess they figured if you're gonna pay top dollar for a house, you might as well get a front row seat to your neighbor's loud arguments too.

Depends how much you care about seeing your neighbors grill every evening lol.

Had to chime in here because I used to think chain link was just fine... figured it was good enough for keeping the dog in and you could always plant bushes later. But then my neighbor put in a grill right by the fence line and @logan658 is totally right, it's like we're all part of one big cookout whether we want to be or not. I've got kids playing in the yard and suddenly I'm explaining why Mr. Johnson is flipping burgers in his underwear on a hot day. Changed my mind real quick after that. Solid panels might be more upfront, but not having to see or smell every single thing the neighbors do when I'm trying to relax outside is worth it.
