Loading flatbed at ABC Steel in Houston taught me a hard lesson about chain tensioners
I was at ABC Steel in Houston last month picking up a load of I-beams. Got everything strapped down tight with my standard binders and headed out. About 30 miles down I-10 I hit a bump and heard a loud clang in my mirror. One of my chains had come loose and the binder was dragging on the road. Pulled over and saw the tensioner had slipped because I didn't double-check the teeth engagement. Now I always give each binder a hard tug after tightening and I carry two extra cheater bars just in case. Has anyone else had a load shift from a simple binder failure like that?

Wedge the dog down tight and kick it once after you set it.

I tied down 50k pounds of rebar once with nothing but cheap ratchet straps from Home Depot. Made it 200 miles no problem. Maybe your binders are fine and you just need to check your work slower.
