My dad's tablet struggle showed me what gadget reviews miss
Most reviews focus on specs but skip how easy gadgets are for regular people, lmao. My dad couldn't figure out the menus on his new tablet, so now I always check for simplicity in reviews.

My uncle still calls his smart TV remote the "clicker".

Last month, my grandma learned to use her new iPhone in just seven days. Hey @hannahyoung, I see why your mom has trouble, but phones are actually really easy these days. They come with voice help and simple settings right out of the box. Many older people catch on fast when they have good instructions. The real issue might be that we expect them to fail. With a bit of time, most phone problems turn out to be no problem at all.

My mom's arthritis means she can't do the pinch-to-zoom thing on her phone. Tech reviews never talk about how many basic actions need two hands or really fine finger control. They'll praise a super responsive screen, but not say if the buttons are big enough for someone with stiff hands to hit reliably. That stuff matters just as much as processor speed for a lot of people, you know?
