My buddy Mark's old Paperwhite was crawling, but he factory reset it last month and now it's like new.

That tracks with what a tech friend told me. He said those things just get bogged down over time with updates and cached data. A clean slate every few years seems to be the fix.

Oh wow, that actually makes a ton of sense. I used to just assume the hardware was wearing out for good when my old Kindle got slow. Hearing what @nguyen.blake's friend said about updates and cached data piling up really changed my mind. It's kind of a relief, you know? It means the device itself isn't just doomed to be useless after a while. I guess I never really thought about how all that background stuff adds up over years of use. A simple reset sounds way better than buying a whole new one.

Had a buddy who was THIS close to trashing his 4 year old iPad because it was lagging like crazy. He was gonna go drop a few hundred on a new one. I told him to just wipe it and set it up fresh, no backup restore. He did it and the thing runs smooth as butter now. Even the battery life was better somehow. People really underestimate how much junk builds up in there over time.
