TIL my $60 smart plug draws more power in standby than my actual coffee maker does when brewing
Found it buried in the fine print of the manual after my electric bill jumped $12 last quarter, anyone else check the idle draw on these things?

Wait, that's wild - $12 just from one smart plug? I've got like 6 of those things around my house and now I'm kinda scared to check my bill lol. Guess I shoulda read that fine print too.

Wait, it's probably closer to like a dollar or two per plug, not twelve.

Is yours the same brand as mine? I had a similar thing happen with a smart plug I got on sale last year. It was pulling like 1.5 watts doing nothing, and I had FIVE of them scattered around. @logan_mitchell is probably right that it's not all $12 but I swear that little vampire drain adds up. My biggest shock was my old WiFi thermostat. That thing ate more power in standby than my fridge compressor running. Straight up swapped it for a dumb one and saw the difference in two months.
