I finally connected my childhood sci-fi worries to real gene editing news.

I watched a program about CRISPR babies yesterday. It reminded me of when we discussed this in biology class like it was fantasy, but now it's actually happening! Are we prepared for the tough choices this technology forces on us?

It’s like one guy running a red light forces everyone else into the crash.

Remember talking to my friend Mike, a biologist, when the first CRISPR baby news broke. He just stared at his coffee and said, "We spent a decade debating the ethics, and someone just ran through the stop sign." He wasn't mad about the science, but about the total lack of a real plan for what comes next.

Honestly read an article that pointed out the scientist behind those babies basically went rogue after his own field told him to slow down. It feels like that's the real problem, nobody had a way to stop one person from just doing it. His friend Mike is right, we built the car but forgot to make any traffic laws.

So who gets to build the guardrails now?
