Sidewalk doppelganger glitch put me in a weird spot

I was out for a walk and saw the exact same woman with a yellow bag cross the street, then appear behind me seconds later. It felt totally wrong, like a scene skip in a video game. I wrestled with whether to tap her shoulder and point it out or just keep walking and ignore it. Telling her felt like the right thing, but I worried she'd think I was making it up. What would you have done in that situation?

You said it felt like a scene skip in a video game. Did you stop and look around for anything else out of place, like a texture pop or something? I had a similar moment with a repeating dog walker last year. What did you end up doing about the woman, and did she notice you staring?

@keith_bennett, your dog walker story got me thinking about pattern recognition in familiar places. I did scan the area after the skip, but focused on sounds too, like a missing bird chirp or distant car that should've been there. The woman caught me looking and gave a quick smile before turning away, which made it even weirder. Have you ever tried logging these events to see if they happen at certain times of day?

Logging the times might show a pattern, honestly.

Logging sounds like a lot of work for something that's probably just our brains being weird! I get noticing small changes in my routine route, but sometimes a missing bird is just a missing bird. That smile she gave could have been a polite "stop staring at me" signal more than anything sinister.
