Just realized those $20 bills in parking lots are usually fake
Was pumped when I spotted a $20 by a gas pump last week. Tried to use it at the store and the cashier pointed out the watermark was just printed on. Watch for the color shifting strip.

Okay but are people really out here printing fake $20 bills just to toss them in parking lots? That seems like a lot of work for maybe getting one or two people before you get caught. I found a $10 once near a bus stop and it was totally real, I spent it on gas without a second thought. Maybe the ones you're finding are just from people who dropped them and are embarrassed to pick them up, not some big counterfeiting ring. Plus most places have those pens now that check the money, so a fake bill wouldn't even work on them.

Right, because dropping fake money is a great business plan. Nothing screams pro counterfeiter like littering.

Wait, didn't @price.ray just say the same thing in that other thread? lol But for real, I had the exact same thing happen to me with a $50 I found outside a Walmart. The cashier pulled out a marker and it just smeared, she was super nice about it but I felt like an idiot. Who is even printing these and just leaving them around? It's gotta be a scam targeting people who think they got lucky. I stick to card orVenmo now if I can help it.
