Manager at my old apartment complex slipped me this trick about credit card fees
She told me to ask for a cash discount on rent every single time, even if their policy says no, because the leasing software lets them override it by up to 3% without approval. Has anyone else gotten a landlord to waive the 2.5% processing fee just by asking in person?

My buddy tried this at his place and the manager just sighed and said "fine" and knocked off the fee on the spot. He said it only worked because he was polite and paid in cash right then though.

Cash in hand is honestly the key part people miss. When you hand over a stack of twenties it feels more final than swiping a card where the fee is just some line item. Managers see that cash and know the transaction is done, no chargebacks, no processing delays. Plus being polite goes a long way because they can always say no but most of them just want to avoid an argument over something small. I've done this for years with late fees on storage units and gym memberships, just show up with cash and ask if they can cut the fee. Nine times out of ten they knock it off because they'd rather take your money now than risk you walking.

Right, so Kim's buddy just had to be polite and pay cash? Groundbreaking. Next thing you'll tell me is that smiling at the barista gets me free coffee. I can just picture some guy standing there with a wad of twenties looking all innocent while the manager begrudgingly types in the override code like they're being held at gunpoint. "Fine, here's your $15 back, now please leave my office." Honestly, if this trick works for a 2.5% fee, I'm trying it on my internet bill next, just to see how far the magic of "asking nicely with cash in hand" can actually go.
