The day I found the letter my dad wrote before he passed
I was cleaning out my mom's attic last Tuesday and found an old shoebox with my name on it. Inside was a letter my dad wrote me in 2007, six months before he died of cancer. He apologized for not being around much when I was a kid and said he was proud of me. I sat on the floor and cried for 20 minutes. Has anyone else found something like that years later?

That part about him apologizing for not being around much really got me. I read something once about how parents often carry guilt for stuff we never even held against them. Sounds like he really wanted you to know how he felt before it was too late.

Wow, that's heavy. I agree with @martin.riley, parents carry way more guilt than we realize. My mom left a voicemail on my old flip phone from 2009 that I found years later, just telling me she loved me and hoped I was eating enough. It wrecked me for a whole weekend. Have you thought about framing the letter or keeping it somewhere you can see it?
