Saw a picture of my old study group from 2019 and nearly dropped my phone

I was scrolling through Facebook last night and a memory popped up from October 2019. It was a photo of me and four other guys from my computer science class at City College. We used to meet at that dingy library basement every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm sharp. One guy, Sam, always brought a bag of pretzels and we would split it while cramming for exams. I haven't talked to any of them since the pandemic hit and classes went online. Last I heard, two of them moved out of state and one changed his number. Has anyone here actually managed to track down an old study buddy after years of no contact?

Man, I still owe Sam like three bucks for all those pretzels so I guess I'm staying lost forever.

Wait, wait wait wait - did I read that right? You owe Sam three bucks from like five years ago? @kai_webb91 that's genuinely hilarious, not gonna lie. I mean imagine being the guy who never paid back his pretzel debt, that's a whole new level of study group lore right there. Honestly I've thought about trying to track down my old group too but it feels kinda weird after all this time. Like what do you even say, "hey remember those days before everything fell apart, wanna grab a coffee?" idk maybe it's just me but that feels like opening an old wound. Still, I hope Sam forgives you someday for those three bucks.

So is the three bucks the real reason you haven't reached out, or is it just an excuse to avoid the awkward conversation? I mean, if you tracked them down and said "hey, here's your three bucks, I'm an idiot," at least you'd know if they're even open to talking again. The longer you wait, the more it turns into this big thing in your head when really it's just three bucks and old history.
