Tried posting a photo of my old bowling team on the local Facebook group... worked way too well

I spent like 2 years trying to find my buddy Marcus from the 2014 Tuesday Night Bowlers league. I tried searching his name, checking LinkedIn, even asked around at the old alley... nothing. Then last month I just posted a blurry team photo from 2014 on the town's "You Know You're From Smallville" Facebook page, no names even. Within 6 hours some random lady commented "that's my cousin's ex-boyfriend's brother, I'll tag him!" and I had Marcus messaging me by the next morning. Has anyone else had luck with just throwing old photos out into random community groups?

My buddy Jenna found her long lost second cousin this way. She posted a grainy photo of a family reunion from like 2008 in a community group for a town she hadn't lived in for ten years. Within a day, someone tagged the cousin who had moved to Canada and they ended up video calling for three hours that weekend.

Think you're mixing up the years a bit, I was in the Tuesday Night league too and 2014 was the year we got kicked out of the alley for the iguana incident. Crazy how fast Facebook finds people though, same thing happened to me with a photo from my high school's weird pet day.

That's exactly what I tell people when they ask how to find someone. You gotta make it easy for the internet to do the work for you. Just post a photo with a vague caption like "anyone know these guys?" and let the Facebook detectives go to town. The key is to tag the town name and a couple local groups, that's what gets the algorithm to show it around. I've helped three different friends track down old teammates this way and it works every single time as long as the photo is clear enough to recognize faces.
