Tried the $9 'organic' maple syrup from Whole Foods and it tasted like sugary water

I picked up a bottle of that expensive organic stuff last Saturday at the Whole Foods in Denver. Figured paying double was worth it for good quality. Poured some on my pancakes Sunday morning and it was thin and barely had any maple flavor. My wife even asked if I forgot to buy syrup. Went back to my usual $4 store brand from Safeway the next day and it was way richer. Reminded me of when I used cheap concrete mix on a job once and had to tear it out. Anyone else been burned by a pricey bottle that didn't deliver?

Oh man I was totally one of those people who thought spending more meant better quality lol. I grabbed a bottle of the expensive stuff from a farmers market last fall thinking I was getting the real deal and it was so watery and bland. Went back to my regular store brand from Target and it's way thicker and actually tastes like maple.

I walked around the farmers market holding that little bottle like I was some kind of syrup connoisseur, nodding at the vendor who told me it was "single grove" or whatever. Got home, poured it on my pancakes and it ran right off like colored water. My wife took one bite and asked if I bought maple flavored water from a fancy puddle. That Target bottle costs like four bucks and actually sticks to the food. Expensive lesson learned, I looked real dumb for about fifteen minutes of breakfast.

Right, so you paid extra for the privilege of eating flavored water. Whole Foods really saw you coming and said "let's see what happens if we bottle the runoff from a real maple tree and charge double.
