Donating my entire book collection taught me a harsh lesson about haste
In my rush to embrace minimalism, I boxed up and donated every book I owned. A week later, I needed a reference for work and realized I had given away crucial materials. Now, I advise taking inventory before letting go of anything, especially items with practical value. A slow, intentional approach prevents regret and ensures you keep what truly matters.

Minimalism's great until you need your books (obviously).

After donating 50 books last year, I learned that minimalism ISN'T about deprivation. The key is a SLOW purge where you assess each item's value. Adams.ray's point misses that it's the haste, not the philosophy, that causes regret. You can absolutely be minimalist and keep crucial references if you're intentional about it.

Honestly, I used to believe minimalism meant getting rid of stuff fast. @mason.sandra's comment about a slow purge really changed my mind on that. Taking time to look at each item's value stops you from making quick mistakes. You can still be minimalist and hold onto books you actually use for reference. Rushing is what leads to regret, not the idea itself. Now I see it's about careful choice, not just having less.
