Neighbor lady saved me $40 on a plumber call last Tuesday
I was out front trying to snake my main drain line after a backup and getting nowhere. She walked over from her garden and said I was going at it wrong, showed me how to angle the cable so it didn't just coil back. Three minutes later the water drained and she wouldn't even take a twenty for her trouble. Anyone else got a handy neighbor who just shows up with better know-how?

My neighbor Bob came over last summer when my lawnmower wouldn't start. He spent like 20 minutes showing me the spark plug was loose and the air filter was totally clogged. I had already bought a new one from the hardware store for nothing. He fixed it in five minutes and told me to just clean the filter every few times I mow. Now I always look first before I panic and buy something new.

Wait till you find out you're supposed to change the oil every year too. I learned that one the hard way after my neighbor's mower seized up and cost him more to fix than a new one. Bob probably also knows you need to drain the old gas before winter or it'll gum up the carburetor. Just a heads up before you learn that lesson the expensive way.
