Three weeks as a human mannequin for a mall art class changed how I see patience
I got paid $15 an hour to sit frozen in a weird pose while art students sketched me. Thought it'd be a breeze but after 45 minutes my arm went dead numb and I couldn't even twitch. The teacher told me to "embrace the discomfort" like it was some zen thing. Has anyone else done modeling gigs that sounded easy but were brutal?

Yeah that "embrace the discomfort" talk is funny until your shoulder feels like it's on fire. I did a life drawing gig once and learned real fast that even a tiny movement feels massive when you're trying to hold still.

Felix, I feel you. My arm went dead in a meeting and it was like dead weight.

Thought my arm was just asleep turns out it was plotting revenge for the next three days.
