Had to choose between a cheap mic and a used Shure at a pawn shop yesterday

The Shure was $80 but looked beat up, the cheap one was $25 and new - I grabbed the Shure and my voice actually sounds warm now instead of tinny. Has anyone else gambled on used gear and gotten lucky?

omg that's awesome! honestly though the real gamble is with pawn shop mics that could've been dropped or had phantom power issues. i picked up a beat up sm58 for like $40 once and it turned out the grille was dented but the capsule was fine. sometimes the beat up ones are actually better because they've been road tested and the seller just needed quick cash. the cheap new one would probably crackle after a month anyway.

$80 for a Shure is a steal even with the dents, @faith_shah88 is right about the beat up ones being secretly gold sometimes. I grabbed a used AT2020 that looked like it survived a bar fight and it still sounds better than anything new under $100.
