Saw a post about using dental floss to fix a laptop hinge, and it actually worked

Somebody on Reddit said they used dental floss and super glue to reattach a broken plastic hinge bracket on their 2012 ThinkPad. I tried it last weekend on my old Dell that had the same issue, the floss acts like thread to hold the plastic together while the glue sets. Been a week now and the screen hasn't fallen over yet, still holding. Anyone else tried random household stuff on laptop shells?

Thumbtacks work too. I used one to reinforce a cracked hinge mount on a Toshiba years ago. Melted it in with a soldering iron and it fused the plastic back together. Held for two years before the motherboard finally died. Duct tape works in a pinch but looks terrible.

Wait, does melting thumbtacks into plastic make me a genius or just REALLY bad at fixing things?

Read a teardown blog once where the guy used melted staples to bridge broken traces on a laptop motherboard. Said it worked better than those conductive glue pens. Your thumbtack trick reminds me of that, the plastic welding idea is pretty clever actually. Did you heat the tack before inserting it or just push it in cold and hit it with the iron?
