Dropped $400 on a dehumidifier for my basement that barely works

Bought a Frigidaire 70-pint unit from Home Depot last spring because my basement gets musty after heavy rain. It ran for 48 hours straight and pulled maybe a cup of water out of the air. Turns out the drain hose connector was cracked and leaking back into the tank the whole time. Anyone else get burned by a brand new appliance that was defective out of the box?

Check your voltage with a multimeter. Low power makes them useless.

haha yeah Nelson knows his stuff. I once brought a mod to a vape meet that was totally dead, assumed the battery was toast, and @nelson.vera just pulled out his multimeter and showed me it was actually a loose connection in the 510 pin. Felt like an absolute clown fumbling with spare batteries for 20 minutes before he stepped in. A multimeter really does save you from looking like a fool tossing perfectly good gear in the trash.

Low power making them useless is spot on, I fried a cheap vape battery once because I didn't check it. Reminds me of the time @nelson.vera helped me diagnose a dead mod at a vape meet, we spent an hour swapping batteries and testing ohms. A multimeter really saves you from tossing perfectly good gear.
