Threw $500 at a photography class and it totally flopped for me

I signed up for this fancy weekend workshop in Austin last spring thinking it would kickstart my side hustle as a wedding photographer. Cost me $500 plus another $200 on gear they said was mandatory. The instructor spent half the time talking about her own success story instead of actually teaching how to handle difficult clients or lighting. I quit the whole dream job thing after that and just stuck with my dog grooming shop. Anyone else drop cash on a course that pushed you further from your passion?

That $500 hurts just reading it. I dropped $350 on a "masterclass" in San Diego about food photography and the guy spent the first three hours explaining how he bought his camera and why he refuses to shoot on Tuesdays. I was hoping for tips on styling plates or natural lighting tricks, you know, the actual useful stuff. It really killed my momentum too, and I stopped taking pictures of my meals for months after that. Sometimes these instructors are just selling their own hype instead of real skills.
