A poet's stumble during a cafe reading got me thinking

I saw a poet trip over her own words at an open mic. It made the poem feel more genuine to me. Most people say a clean read is key for impact. They argue flaws distract from the message. But I find the raw moments more memorable. Like when Mark coughed and then nailed the next line. What's your view on polished vs. messy poetry performances?

Did you hear that podcast about how stumbles in poetry readings make them more engaging? It said that perfect delivery can sometimes feel cold and scripted.

I disagreed at first but that podcast convinced me.

Look at it from the other side. A stumble wastes everyone's time and kills the poem's rhythm. Polished delivery shows you respect the words enough to practice, letting the actual message hit harder without awkward distractions.
