Caught myself using a sander wrong for like 2 years

I was sanding down an old oak table last weekend and kept burning through discs in like 10 minutes each. My buddy stopped by, looked at my setup, and pointed out I had the sander speed cranked to max the whole time. Apparently for wood like oak you're supposed to keep it around 4 out of 6 on the dial, not 6. Felt like an idiot but now I don't go through a disc per board anymore. Anyone else miss a simple setting for way too long?

Honestly I crank mine to max every time and my discs last just fine on oak.

Maxing mine out warped a brand new blade in under ten cuts, no joke.

Ten cuts and it warped? That is hard to believe. I have a 25 year old Makita that I keep set right in the middle and it still cuts straight as an arrow. Something must have been wrong with that blade from the start, or maybe the fence was out of whack and you didn't notice.
