TIL a consistent wind-down playlist cut my post-work rumination in half.

After a brutal performance review, my brain would loop through every criticism as soon as I hit the pillow. I started playing the same ambient soundscape 30 minutes before bed, focusing only on the layers of sound. It created a mental buffer that stopped work thoughts from invading my sleep. What other auditory or mental cues have you used to separate office stress from bedtime? I'm worried this might stop working if I get promoted.

Lol, blasting death metal drowned out my boss's voice.

Actually, the ritual itself becomes the cue, not the specific sounds.

Yeah, I used to focus only on finding the right noise blocker. But @the_brooke's point about the ritual itself being the cue makes way more sense. It's the whole repeatable action that tells your brain to switch modes, not just the sound.

Just wait until you get promoted and need a full symphony to drown out the vice president's voice in your head.
