Stopped counting calories and hit my goal weight after 14 years of trying
I kept seeing these posts from fitness influencers saying you gotta track every single bite or you'll never lose weight. So for years I used apps, weighed portions, drove myself crazy hitting exact numbers. Then I just stopped cold turkey 6 months ago because I got sick of it. Ate what I wanted but smaller portions, stopped snacking after 9 PM, walked 20 minutes a day. Lost 18 pounds without writing down a single number. Makes me wonder how many of those calorie counting posts are just pushing apps or products. Anyone else find a simpler way that worked better than the 'official' advice?

Cutting out snacks after 9 PM isn't really some magic trick, it's basically just calorie counting in disguise since you're limiting when you eat. What you're really doing is creating a natural calorie deficit without the stress of tracking it all day. The smaller portions thing is the same deal - you're still controlling your intake, you just found a way that doesn't feel like a math test. Honestly that's the real win, finding a method that works for your brain and your lifestyle instead of forcing yourself to follow someone else's rigid system. Glad it worked for you though, 18 pounds is solid progress without losing your mind.
