That viral story about a guy finding a hidden room in his house was fake

I saw that TikTok about the guy who found a secret room behind his basement wall with old toys in it. Turns out it was filmed in a set built for a short film, not a real house. Has anyone else spotted obvious red flags in that video?

That 1980s Transformers figure he "found" in the hidden room was a well known reissue from a couple years ago, not an original one. I actually collect vintage toys so that detail jumped right out at me. The box had that new plastic smell and the wrong kind of wear marks on the corners. It makes me wonder how many people fell for it and actually believed he stumbled on some time capsule basement.

See I get where you're coming from but I've watched the video a few times and something about that box honestly looked right to me. Maybe it's just me, but I've been around enough old cardboard to know that new plastic smell can come from a sealed room that's been closed up for decades. The wear marks he showed looked like genuine shelf wear from sitting in a damp corner, not the kind of fake scuffing you'd see on a reissue. Plus the guy had no reason to fake it, he seemed genuinely shocked himself. I mean sure, it could be a clever fake but your average YouTube guy isn't gonna go to that much trouble for a single video. Not saying I'm 100% sure, your mileage may vary, but this one felt real to me.
