Finally caved and tried the dark mode on Reddit after hating it for years

The OLED battery drain on my Samsung was killing me during late night scrolling, so I gave it a shot last week and now I can't go back because my eyes don't feel like sandpaper at 2am. Has anyone else noticed a bigger battery difference than they expected?

Actually OLED saves battery in dark mode not drains it.

People always say OLED saves battery with dark mode but everyone forgets about the burn-in tradeoff. I had an old Galaxy S8 where the notification bar area got permanently darker from being in dark mode all the time. Those pixels wear out faster since they're the ones getting turned off and on constantly. So yeah you save battery now but down the road you might end up with uneven brightness that makes the phone look worse. It's not a big deal if you upgrade every two years but heavy dark mode users holding onto phones longer should think about it.

Wait, isn't burn-in more of a problem with bright static elements than dark mode itself?
