TIL that my favorite thrift spot is now a graveyard for fast fashion castoffs.

Ugh, just got back from what used to be my go-to thrift store and it's all junk now. It's like people are dumping their H&M hauls instead of buying quality, which defeats the whole point of reducing waste. Seriously, how do we fix this cycle without making thrifting elitist?

See this as late-stage capitalism eating its own tail.

That "graveyard for fast fashion castoffs" line hits hard. The fix isn't on consumers alone, it's making brands financially responsible for their waste. Push for laws that charge fast fashion companies for recycling and disposal costs. That would force them to design longer-lasting items without putting the burden on thrift shoppers.

What we really need is for consumers to push back at the source by choosing quality over quantity. That pressure could force fast fashion brands to actually improve their materials and construction, not just their marketing. Otherwise this disposable cycle just moves from the mall to the thrift bin.

The real leverage is with creators and influencers who get sent this stuff for free. If they refused to promote hauls and actually called out flimsy construction, it would gut the aspirational marketing. Right now the cycle is fueled by social proof that's completely disconnected from reality.
