My laptop charger cord split open at the bend and I fixed it with a pen spring
So my dog chewed through my charger cable last month, but I didn't have $70 for a new one. I remembered seeing something online about using a ballpoint pen spring as a protective wrap around the weak spot near the connector. I took apart an old Bic pen, stretched the spring out, and wrapped it around the frayed part. It's been holding up for 3 weeks now and actually feels sturdier than before. Has anyone else tried this trick or found something better for cable repair?
Did you wrap the spring around the bare wire or just over the outer rubber sleeve? I tried this once but it kept slipping off until I used electrical tape over the whole thing.
