Why does nobody talk about risky lifting tips from relatives?

My uncle swore by his extreme arch on bench press, but it just messed up my shoulders. I had to drop his advice and focus on proper form to feel safe again.

Oh man, my dad was the same with squats. He always said to let my knees go way past my toes, like it was some secret trick. All it did was make my knees ache for days. I had to quietly ignore him and watch a bunch of form videos to fix it. Sometimes you just have to trust what your own body is telling you over family gym lore.

Ever just nod and do your own thing? Works for me.

Seriously, that squat story hits home. I got the same "knees past toes" thing from an old coach and it wrecked my joints. Makes you wonder how these myths even start. Now I'm curious, after you fixed your form, did you ever try to gently correct your dad, or do you still just let it go?

Tell me about it. My cousin pushed this crazy rounded back deadlift technique on me, called it "old school strong." Felt like my spine was gonna snap. Had to unlearn that mess fast. Now I just smile and lift my way. Their hearts are in the right place but their form tips are from the stone age.
