Just realized I spent months writing way more code than I needed

When I started learning Python, I'd write these huge blocks to check lists for items... like 10 lines with loops and flags. A month back, I saw someone use 'if item in list:' in a tutorial. It's one line. I felt so silly for not knowing that basic thing existed. My old scripts are full of that extra stuff. It's cool how a simple built-in feature can clean everything up. Has anyone else had a moment like that with a basic command?

Just blew $300 on a 'self-leveling' epoxy that absolutely did not level itself.

Followed the instructions to the letter on a garage floor in Mesa, and now I've got a wavy mess to grind down. Anyone have a go-to brand that actually works like it says?

My neighbor thinks a cashless society means the government sees every coffee you buy

He told me this over the fence last week, and it's a common mix-up. The real issue isn't the government watching your latte purchase, it's the payment apps and banks building a profile on your habits. I know because I worked for a data firm that bought this info to target ads. They don't care about the coffee, they care about predicting your next big buy. Does anyone else see people confusing who actually has the data?

My old boss in Denver told me to never sharpen my breaking knife past 20 degrees

I thought he was just being stubborn, you know, stuck in his ways. So about six months ago I started taking my main breaking knife to a sharpener who put a 15 degree edge on it, thinking it would cut cleaner. Big mistake. The edge was so thin it rolled over on the first beef rib primal I worked on, and I mean it folded like paper. Had to stop everything and re-profile it back to 20, which took me a solid hour I didn't have. The cut was a mess, and I lost maybe half a pound of good meat to ragged edges. He was right, that extra bit of steel makes all the difference for pushing through bone and cartilage. Has anyone else found a specific angle that works best for your heavy-duty knives?
