My old job at the print shop got replaced by a machine that runs itself

I worked at a local print shop for about five years, mostly running the big color press. We had to check every single sheet for color and alignment, which took a ton of time. Then, about two years ago, the owner bought this new press with a built-in camera system. It scans each print as it goes and makes tiny adjustments on its own. My whole job of watching the press just vanished. Now I just load paper and clear jams. Has anyone else had their main task just disappear like that?

My old company in Austin still has my health data from 2018 and won't delete it

I left my job six years ago, but their HR portal still shows my full medical history from a company wellness program. I've sent three certified letters asking them to delete it, and their legal team just says they 'need it for records.' It took me over 40 hours of calls and emails to even get that useless answer. Shouldn't I own my own body's information, especially after I quit?

Found a weird fix for a laptop that wouldn't boot after a coffee spill

Client brought in a three-year-old Dell that got a full cup poured on it. After the usual cleaning with isopropyl, it still gave a black screen and a single beep code. On a hunch, I pulled the CMOS battery for about ten minutes (way longer than the usual 30 seconds) and left the main battery unplugged. When I put it all back, it posted on the first try. Has anyone else had luck with a long CMOS clear fixing liquid damage weirdness?

Our apartment complex switched from individual window units to a central HVAC system this spring.

My electric bill for June was $87, which is almost $40 less than the same month last year with the old noisy window AC. The new system is way more even and quiet too, no more fighting with that one unit that never cooled the bedroom. Has anyone else seen a big drop in costs after a similar upgrade?

Caught a bit of a podcast where they called plants 'quiet roommates'

I was listening to a gardening podcast on my drive home from work. The host said, "Your plants are just quiet roommates that ask for water and light." It hit me that I'd been treating my houseplants like decor, not living things sharing my space. Now I look at my Boston fern in the corner totally differently. My old wood fence looked dead for years, but a good cleaning and new stain brought it back

The fence on my west side was gray and splintering for about five years. I spent a weekend pressure washing it and then used a solid color stain from a local store, and now it looks almost new. Is it better to just replace old wood like that, or is restoring it always worth the effort first?

Debate: Is a 500-foot vinyl fence in one day a realistic goal for a two-person crew?

I hit 480 feet last Thursday with my apprentice, and the argument is whether pushing for that extra 20 is worth the risk of sloppy work or if it's better to call it a solid day and finish clean the next morning.
