Appreciation post: glueing PVC vs using those slip couplings

I used to always use those rubber slip couplings for fixing sprinkler lines cause theyre fast and easy. But after a blowout last spring in my backyard near Coulter Street I switched to proper PVC primer and glue on every repair. The slip coupling let go at 3am and flooded half my lawn. Now I take the extra 10 minutes to glue everything and havent had a leak since. Which side are you on for underground repairs, quick fixes or permanent glue jobs?

My neighbor had the same thing happen but with a supply line to his garden. The slip coupling popped off while he was at work and it ran for six hours straight. City water bill was over 400 bucks that month.

Oh man, did their water company offer any kind of forgiveness on that? I had a similar scare last year when a hose bib split in the backyard and I didn't catch it until I spotted the wet spot by the fence the next morning. Luckily mine only ran for about three hours but the bill still jumped over a hundred bucks, and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw it.

$400 sounds like the water company's idea of a "learning experience." Guess he learned that gardens are expensive hobbies. At least he can water his lawn for free for the next decade... if he still has a lawn.
