Hit 200 bales of hay in my shed roof insulation project

I was patching the shed roof last month and decided to insulate with hay bales since they were cheap. After stacking 200 bales, I realized the roof wasn't built to hold that weight. Whole thing sagged about 3 inches in the middle. Took me a weekend to pull them all back out and switch to fiberglass. Has anyone else miscalculated the weight on a DIY insulation job like that?

Man, that's just how DIY goes. I mean, we always figure it out after the fact.

Tbh I still have the scars from that time I tried to build a bookshelf and ended up with a leaning tower of Pisa situation in my living room. My dad just laughed and said "at least you tried" which honestly made it worse. But yeah, you're right, that's the whole DIY experience in a nutshell. You start with a plan, mess it up, and then somehow convince yourself it looks "rustic" or "character-filled.

You always figure it out after the fact" - man, that is the truest thing I've read all week. I was watching a video the other day about this guy who built a deck and had to rip the whole thing out because he didn't level it first. The comments were full of people saying the same stuff, how they learned the hard way too. It's like we all gotta make the mistakes ourselves to really get it, even when everyone tells us ahead of time.
