Split decision on patching stucco vs calling a pro after my wall crumbled
I was trying to fix a small crack in my stucco out by the back porch near Amarillo Blvd last Saturday and the whole section just fell off, about 2 feet wide. Patched it myself with Quikrete stucco mix for $15 but now the color's off and it looks worse than before. My neighbor says I should have hired a guy from Triple J Stucco for $200 and saved the headache. You guys rough it out yourself or call someone for stuff like this?

Did the Quikrete dry a totally different shade than your existing stucco or just a little off? Cause matching that old west Texas sunbaked color is damn near impossible unless you got lucky.

Nah man it was way off. Like I waited the full 30 days and it still looked like someone photoshopped a patch onto my house. Had to just repaint the whole damn wall to make it not stick out like a sore thumb.

Gotta disagree with you there, @gibson.morgan. I've used Quikrete stucco patch a few times on my own place and it blended in fine after a week or so. Might be your technique or the mix ratio - I let mine sit in the sun for like 20 minutes before applying so it matched better. Sounds like you just had bad luck with that batch or your existing stucco had a weird tint from age.
