Critic said my AI art lacked 'intentional mark making' so I started editing layers pixel by pixel in Photoshop

Spent 6 hours hand correcting one image last week and honestly felt more like an artist than any of the 500 generations before it, has anyone else found that manual edits make you feel less like a prompt jockey?

Oh, the 'intentional mark making' critique. I had an art professor in college say something similar about one of my charcoal drawings, and I still haven't recovered. Your pixel by pixel edits sound a lot like me spending an hour trying to get a single line right in a painting, only to realize the rest of the canvas looks like a toddler got into the paint. It's funny how the manual labor makes you feel like you actually earned the result, even if you could have just typed a better prompt in ten seconds. At least now I can call myself a 'digital artisan' instead of a 'prompt jockey' which sounds a lot less like a gambling addiction.

Well, you're right that it's more about the work than the tool, but pixel editing isn't quite the same as charcoal lines.

Wait, you actually changed my mind on that?
