Bought a $90 'artisan' sourdough starter kit online last year.

Honestly though, @shane_hayes, you didn't actually fail... that kit probably failed you from the start.

Walked into a lumber yard near St. Paul last month and realized I've been ordering wrong for 6 years

My lumber yard guy told me straight up that DF dries to a more stable moisture content because it's a tighter grain, so it doesn't soak up humidity as fast as SPF does. That's why you'll see DF hold its shape in a damp garage while SPF starts twisting after a few rainy weeks, it's the same reason concrete cracks but asphalt flexes I guess, just a matter of how the material handles the weather. He said big box stores push SPF because they can get it cheaper and faster, and the average homeowner doesn't notice the twist until after they've already built a deck and it's too late. Does anyone else see that kind of trade off in other materials they use, like how pressure treated lumber warps way worse than cedar if you don't sticker it right?

My boss pushed us to roll out an AI hiring tool in 3 weeks. I knew it was biased.

Man, that's rough but honestly the real issue nobody talks about is legal liability. If that tool was rejecting women at those rates you might be looking at a class action lawsuit, not just bad press. Have you talked to legal yet about what your exposure is?

Switched from a french press to a pour over after 5 years of thinking it was hype

That 30-second steep time on the french press was always too easy to mess up. Did you find the v60 gives you more control over the brew or is it just a cleaner cup?

Neighbor told me my fence post holes were way too shallow after watching me dig for an hour, now I measure every time

Oh man, "eyeballing it" - that's exactly what I did on my first fence. My neighbor didn't catch me in time though, and I ended up with a gate that drags in the dirt every time it rains. In my experience, neighbors who walk over with their own tools are usually right about the basics like depth. I still measure every hole twice now because that one wonky fence taught me a lesson I didn't want to learn again. Your mileage may vary of course, but a little extra measuring beats having a fence that looks like it's having a bad day.
